Education, Research and Development

Beginning in the 2026 Winter Semester, engineering students will have the opportunity to work on research projects formulated by the W8UM Amateur Radio Club.  This Education, Research & Development Program is co-lead by Ul Balis M.D., Director, Division of Pathology Informatics and Director, Computational Pathology and Laboratory Section, Ovide Pomerleau, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Psychology, Steve Sostrom, Retiree, Senior Engineer, Laurie Nanofabrication Laboratory and Peter Crary, Doctoral Candidate, Electrical & Computer Engineering.

The first 2026 projects offered included;

1) a Maximum Usable Frequency (MUF) time domain reflectometer

2) a phase-coherent array for localizing WiFi and ISM-band signals in 3-dimensional space.
