Net Control Operators

Would you like the opportunity to volunteer as the “Net Control Operator”? NO experience is necessary, and the introductory script has been written for you, just read and have fun!  This is a great way to learn on-the-air radio communications skills among a handful of helpful amateur radio operators.  For your convenience, Pat (WA4DSR, Professor Emeritus of Astronomy) has prepared the script for you and can be viewed below:

Good evening.  This is Your Call.  My name is Your Name and I will be net control for tonight’s University of Michigan’s Amateur Radio Club Sunday night net on the 145.230 MHz W8UM Repeater.

This is a directed net and is open to all licensed amateurs.  This Net can also be accessed via EchoLink, Node #301138 or AllStar Node #502018.  The purpose of the net is to discuss club events, practice net control techniques, exchange information, ask questions, and just have fun.

Break for time.  (Listen for the courtesy tone from the repeater.  This resets the 3-minute repeater timer)

The W8UM repeater is now part of the ALLSTAR Link System, which brings many new features to the repeater.  I wish to advise you that everything on the repeater is now being recorded, RF, Echolink and AllStar.

I will take check-ins in the following order – first, short time, mobile and portable stations, then Echolink / AllStar stations, and finally all other stations.  New hams are especially welcome to check in.

Have paper and pencil ready to write down call signs and names

  • Any short time, mobile, or portable stations please call Your Call now.
    • (if there are any such stations, call them in order for their news or comments. Call on next station and mention who is the one following.   ‘to be followed by….’   Else start the list with Echolink stations)
  • Any Echolink (iOS) / AllStar Link (Android) stations, please call now
    • (if there are any such stations, call them in order for their news of comments.  Else start the list with All Other stations)  Call on next station and mention who is the one following.   ‘to be followed by….’
  • All other stations, please call Your Call now.

Call on next station and mention who is the one following.   ‘to be followed by….’ (if there were are any such stations, call them in order for comments)

  • After all stations have had their opportunity to speak, make 1-final call for any additional stations to either check-in or re-check.  If any, then acknowledge their call and their news or comments as above.  If none, then make any club announcements that you may have.
  • End of Net text

Tonight, we had X stations checking in, X+1 including myself.  Thanks to all and looking forward to hearing from all of you next week – same time, same frequency.

The Amateur Radio Public Service Corp Net begins at 8:30pm on the 145.15 machine.   This net covers topics of interest for the use of amateur radio in public service and emergencies.

Thank you to everyone for your participation and we hope to see you again next Sunday, same time, same place.  Good night to everyone.  This is Your Call clear and returning the W8UM Repeater back to regular amateur radio use.
